Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 5

In Greene County district court Craig Robert Arthur, 48, of Ogden was sentenced Sept. 2 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of unauthorized use of credit less than $1,500. A judgment was entered for a $855 fine with a $128.25 surcharge. Arthur was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of theft- third degree, amended from burglary- second degree. Both prison terms were suspended; the terms will be consecutive if they’re ever served. He was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge on the theft charge. Court costs were $342.10. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria Kester)

Jacob Eugene Day, 35, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail, with all but two days suspended, after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. Day was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must complete any recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation at his own expense, and he must complete a drinking drivers’ course. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

James Marvin Holmberg, 60, of Grand Junction was sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any treatment recommendations at his own expense. Holmberg was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of contraband in a correctional facility was dismissed. Brandon Lee Ferguson, 27, of Scranton was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license suspended. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must perform 100 hours of community service. Ferguson was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Jay Dolliver Orsack, 58, of Churdan, criminal mischief- second degree; and Brandon Joel Turner, 38, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated. A trial date was set for Oct. 28 for Orsack and for Nov. 4 for Turner.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Richard Allen Keller, 43, of Grand Junction, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Roger Keith Ketchum Jr, 37, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Jay Dolliver Orsack, 58, of Churdan, ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise (two counts) and pimping, pandering for prostitution; Gary Paul Sinkular, 56, of Jefferson, tatooing without a permit; Alex Garron Treft, 34, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; and Richard Allen Keller, 34, of Grand Junction, interference with official acts- dangerous weapon, and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense.
